RAWALPINDI, July 3: All government hospitals in the city remained on high alert after fighting erupted between the law enforcement agencies and the Lal Masjid “brigade,” near Melody on Tuesday, Dawn has learnt.

Four major hospitals of the city, namely the Rawalpindi General Hospital, the Holy Family Hospital, the District Headquarters Hospital and the Rawalpindi Cantonment Hospital, remained on high alert after the gun battle started near the mosque, to cope with large-scale injuries and causalities.

Though these hospitals have not received any injured person with the exception of the RGH, till the filling of this report but the authorities said extraordinary arrangements had been made.

An injured person, who had received a bullet injury on his left shoulder, was brought to RGH early in the morning. He was a passer-by who got entangled between the two firing squads near the Lal Masjid. He was successfully operated upon and was stated to be out of danger.— A Reporter
