HYDERABAD, July 3: The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Hyderabad division chapter, has decided to move the court of law against the draft electoral rolls because it believes that names of millions of voters have not been included in the voters’ lists.

The decision was made by a meeting of the party held here on Tuesday and presided over by deputy leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman. The meeting considered the situation arising after the issuance of the alleged bogus voters’ lists.

It demanded that the last date for the inclusion of names in the lists should be extended and the lists of 2002 should be restored for the ensuing general elections.Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Makhdoom said that the Sindh government has miserably failed to protect the life and the property of the people during the recent rains therefore the Sindh chief minister should resign.

He said that the worst fears of the PPP about the voters’ lists have come true as the names of tens of thousands of voters are missing from the draft voters lists, adding that ‘even the names of party MNAs and MPAs and their family members have not been included in the lists.’

He pointed out that the last date for submitting the forms for registering names in the voters’ lists has expired and millions of voters could not get their names registered. Few display centres have been established while the registration forms are kept at Otaqs (guest houses) of landlords, he claimed.

Mr Jamil said that the government wants to rig the elections therefore his party has decided to file a petition in the Sindh High Court.

He regretted that thousands of people have been affected in Sindh due to the rains but the government has failed to provide any relief.

In Thatta, Badin and Dadu districts, he said, thousands of people are marooned but the government has failed to provide them even food and drinking water. He said the rulers should resign for their failure.

Dr Fehmida Mirza read out resolutions adopted in the meeting, demanding that the next elections should be held on the voters lists of 2002, media trial against Benazir Bhutto should be stopped forthwith, banners against her should be removed and the rain-affected people should be provided relief immediately.

PPP’s provincial secretary information Dr Fehmida Mirza, MPA Sassui Palijo, Dr Sikandar Mandhro, Zahid Bhurgari, Ms Farheen Mughal, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Mohsin Shah Bukhari, Dr Mohan Lal Kohistani and others attended the meeting.
