KARACHI, July 2: Former national champion Altaf Hussain paired with brother Shahid to claim the 35 plus doubles title in the third national seniors’ tennis championship at the Karachi Club on Monday.

The brothers’ romped home 6-1, 6-0 against Mohammad Iltifat and Javed in the final. Earlier, they had inflicted a 6-1, 6-1 defeat on Sohail Ahmed and Mohammad Arif in the semis.Azheruddin fought his way in the 45 plus singles last four by getting the better of Anwer Younus in a three-set quarter-final.

Azher won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to meet Hanif Habib in the second semi-final on Tuesday at 6.00pm. Top seed Tahir Gul has already qualified for the final.

Semi-final: Altaf Hussain/Shahid Hussain bt Sohail Ahmed/Mohammad Arif 6-1, 6-1.

Final: Altaf Hussain/Shahid Hussain bt Mohammad Iltifat/Javed 6-1, 6-0.

45 plus doubles:

First round: Ashraf Admani/M. Khalid Rehmani bt Nadeem Hafiz/Hanif 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

55 plus singles (round robin):

Idrees Kodvavi bt Akbar Hayat Khan 8-7.
