Rizwan in seniors tennis final

KARACHI, June 29: Top seed Rizwan Shamsi cruised into 35-plus singles final when he got the better of fourth seed Ejaz Sarhadi in straight sets in the first semi-final of third KC National Seniors’ Tennis Championship on Friday.

Rizwan, the last year’s losing finalist, won the battle with ease 6-0, 6-2. He had disposed off Mohammad Iltifat 6-1, 6-2 in second round on Thursday night. Defending champion Alam Afzal Janjua is not competing in the event.

Second seed Tahir Gul takes on the winner of Zulfiqar Hakeem/Shariq Vohra in the second semi-final.

Tahir Gul also booked his berth in last four of 45 plus singles handing a crushing 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Army’s Anwarul Haq in second round. The former got a bye in first round.

The 55-plus singles also commenced on Friday with only four players vying for honours on round robin league in pro-set matches.

Shariq Vohra bt Adil Ejaz 6-4, 6-2.

Anwar Younus bt Ashraf Admani 6-4, 6-0.

(Second round):

Tahir Gul bt Anwarul Haq (Army) 6-0, 6-1.

55 plus singles (round robin league):

Idrees Kodvavi bt Zakaria Ali Mohammad 8-6 (pro-set).

Akbar Hayat Khan bt Zakaria Ali Mohammad 8-4.
