RAWALPINDI, June 26: Additional District and Sessions Judge (ASJ) Shaukat Mahmud here on Tuesday served notices on senior superintendent of Central Jail Adiala after an under trial prisoner accused the jail authorise of torture.

Kamalu Din an accused in a case of murder alleged before the court that the jail authorities had tortured him and detained him in a separate lock-up for many days. The prisoner was produced before the court.

The ASJ directed the superintendent jail Mirza Shahid Saleem Beg to appear before the court in person on July 2 and explain in written why the complainant had been tortured.

The judge also directed senior medical officer Adiala Jail to provide all medical facilities to Kamalu Din and the report in this regard be presented to the court in due time.

Meanwhile a bailiff appointed by District and Session Judge Khawaja Imtiaz recovered an infant child from the custody of his father and handed him over to the mother.
