KASUR, Oct 20: Ilahabad police on Saturday shot dead an in-custody dacoit and injured another seriously when they reportedly tried to snatch arms from the policemen.

Muhammad Ashiq, who was arrested a few days ago, told Ilahabad police that he had committed a number of dacoities along with his two accomplices Muhammad Hanif and Muhammad Sharif of Harrapa.

A police party headed by ASI Rashid Ahmad visited Harrapa and arrested his accomplices.

On way back, Hanif and Sharif reportedly tried to snatch arms from the escort near Kodey Sial village. Other policemen fired at them, killing Hanif instantly and injuring Sharif seriously.

LIFE-TERM: A local court on Saturday handed down life imprisonment and fined Rs20,000 each to two convicts in a murder case.

They will have to undergo an imprisonment of one month each if they default in the payment of fine.

The court acquitted two co-accused — Muhammad Riaz and Muhammad Saleem — for the lack of evidence.

According to the prosecution, Mukhtiaran Bibi along with her lover Hasan Shah strangled her husband Muhammad Hanif in Jajal village in 1997.
