Call to fill in 100 posts of patwaris

Published October 21, 2001

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 20: The Anjuman-i-Patwarian has demanded that 100 sanctioned seats of patwaris which have been lying vacant since long should be filled in immediately.

Dera Ghazi Khan sub-division Anjuman president Rana Sajjad Ahmad told Dawn on Saturday that 59 posts were vacant in the Dera sub-division. Thirteen patwaris from other districts were working in the Dera sub-division, he added.

It may be noted that according to the Central Board of Revenue rules and Land Record Act manual, a patwari could not be appointed in other sub-divisions.

Mr Ahmad said the vacant seats should be filled in because at least 300 candidates have passed the patwar examination.

He said patwaris have been getting donkey allowance since British times for carrying revenue record. He demanded that the allowance should be renamed as motorcycle allowance.

He demanded that the names of patwaris working in other districts which have been included in the seniority list of the Dera sub-division inadvertently should be removed from the list.

Mr Ahmad said the tehsil offices have been without electricity and water since long and demanded of the higher authorities to restore the power and water connections.
