KARACHI, June 20: Promising Omer Shahid turned out to be the pick of the day when he sprang two upsets in the second STA development series tennis tournament at PN Karsaz courts on Wednesday.

His victim in both the encounters was seeded Hasham Khan who made an unceremonious exit in boys U-15 singles and juniors U-17 singles quarter-finals.

Omer achieved his first success of the day when he humbled top seed Hasham in three sets thriller to cruise in last four of boys U-15 event. Omer was home 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 to meet Nameer Shamsi in the second semi-final on Thursday.

Abdul Rehman has already made it to the boys U-15 singles final by handing 6-1, 5-0 (retd) defeat to Azher Qureshi.

Continuing with his fine performance, Omer again beat second seed Hasham 6-4, 6-2 to power his way in juniors U-17 singles semis where he is drawn to face Abdul Rehman.

Shahbaz Khan pulled off yet another upset when he got the better of second seed Ramiz Farishta 6-2, 1-0 (retd) to make it to the boys U-13 singles last four stage.

Top seed Nameer Shamsi and Imran Mooraj also joined him in the last four while the winner of Vinod Das/Yayha Essa match will complete the line-up.

Another talented player Zuhair Raza overwhelmed Asadullah twice to propel in men’s singles and juniors U-17 singles semi-finals.

Aliya Hai struggled to beat Sara Khan 7-6 (2), 6-7 (5), 6-2 on way to making it to ladies singles semi-final where she meets top seed Seher Khawaja.

Eman Malik made her entry in the final by virtue of a walkover against Mehek Tahrani.

Nameer Shamsi bt Shahrukh Asim 6-0, 6-0; Imran Mooraj bt Ali Imran 6-3, 7-5; Shahbaz Khan bt Ramiz Farishta 6-2, 1-0 (retd).

Boys U-11 singles (quarter-finals):

Talha Zubair bt Ali Mooraj 8-6.

Men’s singles (quarter-finals):

Farhan bt Robin Das 6-3, 7-5; Syed Zuhair Raza bt Asadullah 6-1, 6-0.

Ladies singles (semi-final):

Eman Malik w/o Meheh Tahrani.

Juniors U-17 singles (quarter-finals):

Talha Saeed bt Ahad Hasan 1-6, 6-4, 6-1; Omer Shahid bt Hasham Khan 6-4, 6-2; Syed Zuhair Raza bt Asadullah 6-0, 6-0.
