PESHAWAR, June 19: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Peshawar International Airport’s manager in a writ petition challenging the imposition of entry fee on visitors to the airport.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Qaim Jan Khan and Justice Mohammad Raza Khan took up for preliminary hearing the petition filed by an advocate of the high court, Abdul Samad Marwat, praying the court to set aside a notification issued by the airport manager through which an entry fee of Rs20 per person was imposed on visitors.

The respondents in the petition are the Federation of Pakistan through the defence secretary, the Peshawar Airport manager, regional director of the Civil Aviation Authority and the force commander of the Airport Security Force in Peshawar.

The entry fee was introduced by the authorities following a bomb explosion at the airport on April 28 which damaged a café there. Another blast outside the airport last December had killed one person.
