LAHORE, June 16: The Labour Party Pakistan (LPP) has challenged the arrest and detention of its Secretary General Farooq Tariq in the Lahore High Court. Mr Tariq was released from Bahawalpur Jail on Friday.

The petition challenging the arrest and detention of Mr Tariq was filed on Saturday by LPP National Committee Member Maqsood Mujahid. The LHC will take it up hearing on Monday (tomorrow). National Workers’ Party President Abid Hasan Manto will appear on behalf of the petitioner.

Mr Tariq was detained in a crackdown on political workers after the promulgation of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Ordinance in the first week of June. Mr Tariq was detained in Bahawalpur Jail where his wife and children were denied permission to see him.
