BAHAWALPUR, June 15: Ten local lawyers will reach Multan on foot to join the reception of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on June 23.

Lawyers, including Khalid Mehmood Gill, Muhammad Ayyaz, Rana Arshad, Khawaja Murtaza, Masood Aziz and Sharif Bhatti, said that they were determined to cover 90-kilometer distance on foot to express solidarity with the CJP.

A batch of 25 lawyers, led by DBA president Yahya Khan, will leave for Faisalabad by a bus on Friday night to participate in the CJP reception on Saturday (today).

PML-N district president and former MNA Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja has arranged the transport for the lawyers.

ARRESTED: An activist of the Jamaat-i-Islami and Kissan Board, Punjab, secretary-general, was detained for 30 days under the 16 MPO.

Reports said that police had whisked Jam Hazoor Bakhsh away soon after the protest rally of lawyers.

Leaders of combined opposition parties, including PPP district president Riaz Dahar, PML-N district president Mumtaz Ahmed Jajja and MMA district chief Mian Saeed Ahmed, were also among rally participants.
