LAHORE, June 7: Wajid Ali, Pakistan’s top badminton player has been selected as chairman of Athletes Commission of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). Wajid will head the commission comprising six players of different games to protect the interest of all players in the POA. He will represent the athletes in the POA's general body and executive committee meetings.

Wajid said it was a great honour for him and he would try his level best to look after the interest of the players.

Wajid is six times national champion and has represented Pakistan in Asian Games, SAF Games and Commonwealth Games in 2006. Wajid achieved world ranking of 114 in 2006, the highest ranking achieved by any badminton player in the last 20 years.

The other players included in the commission are Pakistan hockey captain Rehan Butt, tennis top prodigy Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Mohammad Shah (athlete), Syed Asghar Ali Shah (boxer) and Miss Rubab Raza (swimmer).
