LAHORE, June 6: The National Testing Service (NTS) management is still in the dark with regard to the formal decision from the Punjab government, whether the public sector universities will process their undergraduate and postgraduate classes’ admissions through the entrance test conducted by the testing service or not.

It may be mentioned that Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool had called a meeting of public sector universities’ vice-chancellors on June 4 to discuss and resolve the issue. The problem surfaced after the comments given by the Punjab law department that admissions to public-sector universities through entrance tests by the NTS would be without any legal effect until and unless each university make requisite amendments to its admission regulations.

It is also learnt that most universities’ VCs had also rejected the idea of holding entrance tests for every departments in all public sector universities.

Giving a detailed briefing to the meeting, NTS director Dr Haroon Rasheed had said that they were ready to hold entrance test on July 15 and they would receive admission forms till June 15.

He also said the NTS had invested huge funds to create awareness about the test among masses besides giving advertisements in newspapers. He said the NTS was ready to take tests for admission to country’s 24 public sector universities.

After the presentation, the governor had assured Dr Rasheed that he would consult the Punjab government and inform him about the decision within 48 hours, which concluded on Wednesday afternoon.
