MULTAN, June 6: The Multan civil judge has rejected police request for physical remand of five arrested journalist and sent them on judicial remand here on Wednesday. Makhdoompur police registered two separate cases against journalists Ayub Niazi, Irfan Ahmad Malik, Lal Khan, Rana Abdul Sattar and Mirza Nisar and arrested them. A local court granted them in one of the cases on Tuesday.

The journalists alleged that police implicated them in false cases and tortured them the whole night after stripping them for reporting against police.

Meanwhile, leaders of local bars, political parties and civil society organisation have condemned police action. They demanded termination of DSP Mian Tanveer, Makhdoompur police station SHO Chaudhry Yousaf and staff who were involved in torture of journalists. They also demanded the transfer of DPO because he was protecting the police employees.
