ISLAMABAD, May 28: Justice Javed Iqbal, who took oath as the acting chief justice of the Supreme Court on Monday, has said nobody can pressurise judges. Justice Iqbal will act as the ACJ in the absence of Justice Rana Bhagwandas who proceeded to Malaysia on an official visit to attend a conference.

In a brief chat with reporters, he said there was no pressure on judges either from the government or the bar. He said everything would be done in accordance with the law and the Constitution and the Supreme Court would be kept functional. He said he had done everything possible in the case relating to missing persons.

Answering a question about the boycott of the oath-taking ceremony by the Supreme Court Bar Association, he said: “It’s their discretion.” Earlier, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar administered the oath to Justice Iqbal as the acting chief justice at a ceremony held in the Supreme Court building.
