LAHORE, May 26: Young Test opener Salman Butt on Saturday said his performance in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka boosted his morale, adding he was expecting a more commendable show to help Pakistan stage winning comeback in international cricket.

Talking to reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium, Salman, who scored a well-deserved Test century on his very first visit to Australia at Sydney in 2004-05, said he had removed some flaws in his batting during the 10-month training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) under the coaching of Mohsin Sheikh, coach of the youth team, which enabled him to give good performance in Abu Dhabi (against Sri Lanka).

“I would like to admire Mohsin for his commitment for the game; he played a major role in removing my faults,” Salman, whose unbeaten century at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 2004 gave Pakistan a fine victory in the BCCI Platinum Jubilee one-dayer, stated.

Salman, who was recalled to the Pakistan team after several months, scored 110 runs in three innings of the Abu Dhabi series against the World Cup runners-up.

Apart from two other coaches of the NCA — Mohtashim Rasheed and Shahid Aslam — who had passed Level-II coaching course from England, Mohsin is the only coach, who had passed Level-II from Australia.

“I think the PCB should use Mohsin for juniors as he has the technique to improve batting skill of the players,” opined Salman who smashed a match-winning Test century against Ashes-holding England in 2005 at Multan to lead Pakistan to a 22-run victory.

Mohsin has also toured as coach of the Pakistan U-19 team to Australia in April this year where his team lost the five-match series in a close contest 3-2 after levelling it 2-2.

Salman said the 2-1 win against Sri Lanka would prove a tonic for the team and hoped that it would cause Pakistan to start performing well at the top international level.
