KOHAT, May 26: Local tribal administration officials and elders of six tribes of the Frontier Region of Kohat on Saturday held a grand jirga to discuss steps to deal with crime in the area.

The District Coordinating Officer and Political Agent of the FR Kohat Shahab Ali Shah expressed concern over the increase in crime rate despite the signing of a peace agreement.

He urged tribal elders to outline a solid course of action to maintain peace in the area.

The tribal elders constituted a 25-member committee that would compile a detailed report about the handing over of criminals, protection of roads and dealing with crime.

A committee, comprising tribal elders and members of the political administration, was also set up to strengthen the Khasadar force.

Tribal elders praised the political administration’s efforts and assured them full cooperation for bringing about a better law and order situation in the region.—Agencies
