KOLKATA, May 23: Uncapped Indian batsman Manoj Tiwary has headed to London for surgery on his right shoulder. He was to be treated at King Edward VII Hospital on Wednesday and will remain there till May 29. Unfortunately though, the rehabilitation process will stretch between eight to 12 weeks, effectively ruling him out of the England tour starting in July.

Tiwary picked up the injury while training before India's first ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur and was sent home after consulting an orthopedic specialist. He was originally scheduled to undergo surgery on May 14 but wanted a second opinion.

Dr Andrew Wallace, the London-based surgeon who has treated Sachin Tendulkar, suggested surgery after he was contacted by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

“After the board-appointed doctor (Dr Anant Joshi) had seen Manoj and recommended surgery, the cricketer wanted a second opinion,” Prasun Mukherjee, the president of the CAB, said at a press conference in Kolkata.—Agencies
