BAHAWALPUR, May 23: The decision to ensure closure of markets by 9pm is not being properly implemented across Punjab thanks to the protest campaign launched by the lawyers, it is learnt.

Sources told Dawn on Wednesday that in the wake of the agitation by the lawyers the government had been giving ‘some relaxation’ to the traders so that they could smoothly run their businesses.

They said the government’s earlier decision to extend the market closure timings from 8pm to 9pm was meant to avoid any confrontation. It was now expected to ask the district governments to convene joint meetings of the traders and the government officials to ensure implementation of the notification of shops’ closure.

GANGS’ BUSTED: The Khairpur police have smashed two gangs of motorcycle thieves and recovered nine two-wheelers from them.
