PESHAWAR, May 23: Students belonging to different colleges on Wednesday took out a procession and demanded of the provincial government to arrest killers of PPP leader Syed Qamar Abbas and Mohammad Ali Raza Akhunzada. The PPP leader and his relative were assassinated by unidentified terrorists at the Faqirabad bridge, on May 6.

Carrying black flags, banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the killers, the students took out the procession from the Nau Bajauri Gate, Old City. The procession, after passing through Sher Shah Suri Road, turned into a protest meeting outside the Peshawar Press Club.

Speaking to protesters, Shehryar Akhunzada, the first cousin of Mr Akhunzada, lamented that after the passage of 17 days the provincial government had failed to arrest killers of Mr Akhunzada and Syed Qamar Abbas, Senior Provincial Vice-President of People’s Party Parliamentarian.

He asked the government to arrest killers of Mr Ali and Mr Abbas within 10 days otherwise they would spread their protest to the entire province.

The protesters chanted slogans against the killers, and asked the government to take immediate action against the culprits involved in the incident.

Syed Haider Abbas, son of Mr Qamar Abbas, and others led the procession. A heavy contingent of police was present to maintain law and order situation.
