HYDERABAD, May 23: The Manjhand Shehri Ittehad Action Committee has requested president, prime minister, Sindh governor and chief minister to shift back headquarters of taluka from Sann to Manjhand. It cited resentment among the people of Manjhand against shifting of taluka headquarters to Sann.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Wednesday, Mohammad Saleh Memon, chairman of the committee, Pandhi Khan Tanghehani, chairman Rajuni Ittehad, UC Manjhand, Hyder Mallah, general secretary Manjhand Shehri Ittehad and others said that under the devolution plan introduced by President Pervez Musharraf, Dadu district was bifurcated in 2005 and a new district of Jamshoro was created with four talukas namely Kotri, Thana Bula Khan, Sehwan and Manjhand.

They said Manjhand taluka had 50 dehs, 12 tapas and two circles and always served as a business centre. In 1932, it was a taluka of Karachi district, and in 1936 of Dadu district.

Leaders of action committee said that the title of the first book written by late G.M. Syed was "Manjhand Mahal Kaari."

They further said the historical importance of Manjhand had been mentioned in books written by Alexander Burns, S.P. Chhablani and in Tareekh-e-Mousumi.

They regretted that those who took votes from the people of Manjhand in previous elections were opposed to the development and progress of this place and had established a camp office of Manjhand mukhtiarkar at Sann.
