ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: The government has decided to make district Nazimeen responsible for keeping a strict watch on the activities of madaris in their jurisdiction, and no religious institution could be opened, in future, without prior permission of the district government.

The federal Ministry of Law is working on a law, in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, for checking the activities of the religious institutions.

The government wants that no religious institution be opened, in future, without the prior permission of the district Nazim.

The district Nazimeen will be required to ensure that no banned religious party was allowed to operate in their districts, and open madaris for imparting military training.

The Nazim will also be responsible for keeping complete record of the madrissa in his jurisdiction and the information will be forwarded to the provincial government.

It would also be the duty of the district Nazimeen to check that existing madaris, besides education of the holy Quran, Hadith and Fiqah, were also imparting modern knowledge like mathematics, computer and general sciences.

An official said the government was making an attempt to change the outlook of the students of seminaries towards the society.

The government is also separately working on a law under which it would be mandatory for a madrissa manager to teach modern subjects like computer sciences, mathematics and general sciences.

The official said the objective of the law was to impart modern knowledge to the students of seminaries which are churning out narrow minded students.
