LAHORE, May 21: No action has been taken against the Defence police officials, including the SHO and the investigation in-charge, for torturing two students on Sunday. Umer Farooq, a second-year student at the MAO College, and his friend, Yasir, were taken into custody after a 15 call by a citizen that two persons were looting a citizen in Y-Block.

SHO Arshad Kanju and investigation in-charge Khalid along with subordinates reportedly tortured the boys at the Defence police station and later took them to the Factory Area’s torture cell.

When contacted, the cell phone of SHO Arshad Kanju was not responding while the landline number of the Defence police station was continuously engaged.

Cell phone of Cantt SP Ahmad Kamal was also found powered off, while the SSP (operations) was busy in some meeting when this scribe tried to contact these officials.

Police sources confided to Dawn that no inquiry had been held into the matter so far, and the SHO and the investigation in-charge were still working on their posts.
