LARKANA, May 21: Four persons illegally detained at two police stations in the Qambar-Shahdadkot district were recovered and released on Monday. Qambar resident Ali Akbar Mugheri had moved the court of the sessions judge against the SHO of the Qambar police station for picking up his relative, Ali Asghar Mugheri. He complained that the SHO had detained and tortured Asghar and was demanding Rs 20,000 for his release.

In an identical petition, Mohammad Ibrahim Shabrani from Gaji Khuhawar town approached the courts against ASI Khalil Ahmed Massan for picking up his son Ayaz Ali Shabrani. The petition said that the ASI was demanding Rs 30,000 for Ali Shabrani’s release.

The sessions judge appointed Liaquat Ali Sangi as raid commissioner and directed him to conduct unannounced raids at the relevant police station lockups.

At the Qambar police station, the court official found Asghar and the SHO could not produce any papers validating the arrest. Ali Shabrani was found in the Gaji Khuhawar police station and ASI Massan could not justify the arrest either.

Two other men in the lock-up – Mumtaz Ali and Gul Hassan Khuhawar – used the opportunity to tell the raid commissioner about their own illegal detention. Again, police officials were unable to provide any grounds on which these arrests had been made.
