ISLAMABAD, May 20: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will address lawyers on the Supreme Court premises on May 26.

This was announced by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Munir Malik and Pakistan Bar Council vice-chairman Mirza Aziz Beig at a press conference here on Sunday.

Mr Malik said the SCBA had arranged a seminar and invited the Chief Justice to preside over it. The theme of the seminar is “Separation of power and independence of judiciary”.

He said a large number of lawyers from across the country were expected to attend the seminar and warned the government against creating hurdles in the way of the holding of the seminar.

He said the responsibility for the law and order situation would be on the government if the lawyers were stopped from attending the seminar.

He said the Chief Justice planned to go to Karachi and added that the date for his programme would be determined by the High Court Bar concerned.

He said in case of any restriction the CJP would address the seminar from his residence.
