SWABI, May 11: Swabi District Nazim Shahram Khan said on Friday that 10,000 people from his district would participate in the Islamabad rally on May 12 which might be addressed by President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam visited the district to convince the people about the event.

Analysts said the rally would be an effort to counter the continued struggle by the legal community and judges in support of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

The meeting is an apparent move to neutralise the opposition’s growing pro-chief justice protest demonstrations and the ruling PML has decided to go all out in defence of Gen Musharraf, said an analyst.

In his speech Mr Khan said the president was expected to unveil the line of action for the coming elections.

The nazim said that he had held meeting with the union council nazims and party workers to make the event a success. All preparations had been completed, he added.
