HYDERABAD, May 11: Discharge of poisonous water from Manchhar Lake to the River Indus continues and about 660 cusec of contaminated water was released into the Indus on Friday morning.

The Manchhar Lake water is being mixed with 35,000 plus cusec of water in Indus at Jamshoro bridge, which goes into tanks of Hyderabad Development Authority and Water and Sanitation Agency, which supplies this water for domestic consumption.

Directorate-General of Health, Sindh, has said that main cause of the outbreak of gastroenteritis is consumption of contaminated Manchhar water by the people.

The water at Kotri barrage is already stagnant while more water, released from Sukkur barrage, is to reach at Jamshoro within two days.

GASTROENTERITIS: More patients of gastroenteritis were brought to hospitals in Hyderabad district.

Hospital, Bhitai Hospital Latifabad, Qasimabad Government Hospital, CDF Hospital, Kohistan, Tando Jam and Husri hospitals.

The biggest number of patients reported at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad, followed by Memon Hospital and Majeed Hospital. Many of them were discharged after getting treatment.—PPI
