KARACHI, May 9: The two-day Pakistan Inter-Universities Swimming Championship begins at PN swimming pool Karsaz from Monday with swimmers from across the country competing for honours.

Nine universities — Punjab University, University of Lahore, NED University, Taxila Engineering University, Iqra University, IBT University, Hamdard University, Dadabhai University and hosts Karachi University — have confirmed their participation.

Greenwich University and Aga Khan University have expressed their inability to compete.

The championship forms criteria for selection of Pakistan University team for the August 8-18 World University games being held at Bangkok.

The HEC has named a seven-member selection committee which include Prof Iqbal, Regional Director HEC, Prof Raees Alvi, Registrar Karachi University, Cdr. Shabbir Ahmed (PN), Abida Shaheen (KU), Amir (Iqra), Tariq Gujjar (NED) and a representative of Pakistan Swimming Federation.
