Taiwan April exports up

Published May 8, 2007

TAIPEI, May 7: Taiwan's exports in April rose 5.5 per cent year-on-year to $19.83 billion, largely on an increase in steel, electrical machinery and electronics shipments, the government said on Monday.

The April figures compared with a 10.4 per cent rise to $19.76 billion in March, the finance ministry said.

Imports in April grew 11.8 per cent year-on-year to $18.36 billion, against an 8.5 per cent increase to $17.55 billion in the preceding month, it said.

This gave an April trade surplus of $1.47 billion, down from a surplus of $2.21 billion in March. —AFP
