KARACHI, May 5: Zafar Ishaq and Haseeb excelled with superb performance to help their respective outfits won inaugural matches at the AKU Inter-university basketball tournament that started at the AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium on Friday.

Zafar smashed 26 points with his sharp reflexes as Ziauddin Medical University (ZMU) outclassed the hosts, the Aga Khan University, 56-49 in the opening match.

Similarly, Haseeb scored 23 points and played the leading role in Jinnah Medical and Dental College's 46-42 win over the Greenwich University.

In the third battle of the day, the Baqai University overwhelmed the Altamsh Institute of Dental Medicine by 49-21.

Awais Aslam was the top performer for the winners by marking 17 points.—PPI
