ISLAMABAD, May 4: A child, Saad Jamil, who was seriously injured during the October 8 earthquake in Muzaffarabad has fully recovered after being operated upon by a renowned urologist from United Kingdom.

Introducing the child to media here, the Chairman Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra) Altaf Saleem said his pelvic region was severely crushed and his urinary tract veins critically ruptured. He was provided immediate medical care at Al-Shifa hospital Islamabad, initially but he could not recover and return to a normal life.

Altaf Salim said that since the treatment of child was not possible in Pakistan, his father requested Erra for urgent assistance. The Erra sent X-rays and other medical reports to Ms Sylvia Eible who heads Children First, an Italian based NGO.

She quickly contacted Dr Mouzaire in Italy to help the child for providing treatment to the child anywhere in the world.

Thereafter, Dr Mouzaire arranged medical consultation with one of the renowned Urologists in the world, Dr Philip Ransley of United Kingdom. Dr Philip Ransley specially visited Pakistan to operate Saad on March 11, 2007. The child was instantly shifted to Karachi and admitted in Sindh Institute of Urology (SIU) for surgery. Dr Philip Ransley operated Saad on the very next day that was March 12, 2007 free of cost.
