KARACHI, April 29: The City District Government Karachi has rejected the revised layout plan put forward by the Gadap Town administration on March 6 for incorporating certain changes in the existing layout of the New Sabzi Mandi, located on Super Highway.

It is learnt that the revised plan suggested almost a 100 per cent increase in the number of shops and auction sheds. The existing plan shows the number as around 4000 and the Gadap Town administration has proposed carving out as many plots by slashing the width and length of parking lots, pavements and open spaces within the vicinity of the Mandi.

The CDGK has reportedly informed the town administration that the proposed layout plan did not impress the Master Plan Department.

Earlier, the Sindh chief secretary had taken notice of the press reports about mismanagement and other problems being faced by stakeholders, who had constantly been complaining of the absence of basic facilities at the Mandi. He had noted that despite the passage of six years since the market was shifted from the University Road, even the basic facilities could not have been provided to the stakeholders.

Allottees of shops, sheds and other concerns have been demanding adequate water supply, installation of power meters and proper maintenance to ensure hygienic conditions, at the Mandi for traders and visitors.
