PESHAWAR, April 28: Staying away from homes for years and denial among people living with HIV/AIDS have made the tribesmen vulnerable to the virus that cripples the immune system. Only an organised awareness campaign can save the 3.6 million people in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas from the disease’s onslaught, participants of a media workshop held by the AIDS Control Programme for Fata here on Saturday were told.

The speakers said that, officially, the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Fata was only 110, but according to UNAIDS assessments the actual number could be in thousands.

Fata Health Director Dr Mohammad Zubair was the chief guest.
