ISLAMABAD, April 28: A blood feud started by a fatal celebratory firing at a wedding 15 months ago claimed another life on Saturday, police said.

Relatives of Sajid Mehmood who was killed by gunfire at the wedding in December 2005 allegedly shot dead Raja Abdul Zahir, a brother of Azhar Mehmood who has already been sentenced to death for killing Sajid Mehmood.

Mohammad Ayub, father of the two brothers, told Dawn that he and Zahir were going together when a man told Zahir he was needed at his estate office. Accordingly he asked his father to turn back while he attended to the business.

But he had gone some distance when he heard shots and on turning back found his son Zahir riddled with bullets and dead. Zahir, 24, was about to be married soon, according to Ayub.

His brother Azhar is fighting the death sentence awarded to him by a sessions court in the Lahore High Court.
