GILGIT, April 27: The Karakurum International University faces shortage of professors and despite repeated advertisements no professor is willing to serve there.

Sources said the shortage was affecting teaching and research activities in the university. They said there were eight PhD scholars teaching in the university and most of the teachers were young lecturers hired on contract basis.

The ad hoc teachers, they said, usually left the university for good after getting better opportunities. They said even lecturers having 2-3 years of experience had been made chairmen of various departments, which reflected badly on the image of the institution.

The sources said the university had advertised various posts last year but only a few candidates applied for teaching posts. However, they said, no application was received for posts of senior professors.
