KHAIRPUR, April 26: Six villagers, including three women, were injured in a clash between police and villagers in the Kumb area on Thursday.
A police party, led by the in-charge of the Kumb police picket, Allah Rakhio, raided some houses in Misri Shah village and tried to arrest some villagers, the police said. The clash erupted when the villagers offered resistance.
As a result Hammal Dombki, Morial Shambani, Jafar Dombki, Rani, Shakar Khatoon and Dhayani were injured. They were taken to the Kotdiji taluka hospital where they were admitted.
Kotdiji Taluka Nazim Munawwar Wassan told journalists that the villagers had been injured in police firing. The police claimed that Allah Rakhio, constables Daim Narejo, Gul Mohammad Ujjan, Barkat Gopang and Sher Mohammad were also injured in the clash.
The villagers said that they often faced harassment by the staff of the police picket, who demanded goats from some cattle traders residing in the village. Mr Hammal alleged that the police had entered their houses without any complaint against them and manhandled women and children.
According to the police, they had conducted the raid to pick up some people for investigation in a case.
Later, the villagers staged a protest demonstration on the National Highway near the village for two hours. They raised slogans against the police team and demanded registration of an FIR against the police officials involved in the incident.
The TPOs of Kotdiji and Thari Mirwah reached at the site of the protest and persuaded the protesters to lift the road blockade.
Gastroenteritis: An increase in heat wave has given rise to more cases of gastroenteritis in different areas of the district. Ten persons were affected in village Mohammad Azam Lund.
The whole families, including children are said to be suffering from gastroenteritis, while chicken pox too is on rise in Kolab Jial, Talo Bhando, Siyalabad, Phori Chandio, Tando Nazar Ali towns/villages including Nazkat, Naveed, Zehra, Tooba, Imran, Tasleem, Gohar and others.
The villagers said they were getting treatment at private clinics. Some cases were also reported from Wada Mahessar.
JUI: The activists of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) took out a procession from Khaki Shah Pul and marched through different roads on Thursday.
They staged demonstration on Panj Gulla chowk. They condemned the rocket fire on the residence of Moulana Fazlur Rehman in Dera Ghazi Khan.
