JACOBABAD, April 25: Acting President and Senate Chairman Muhammedmian Soomro has said that the present assemblies can re-elect General Pervez Musharraf as president for the next five years.

Talking to journalists at Jacobabad airport here on Wednesday, he said that the president’s current visit was of great significance as its objective was to get financial support and cooperation.

Answering a question about the controversy over the chief justice of Pakistan, Mr Soomro that the issue was pending with the court, hence he would not comment on it.

He said that forthcoming elections would be held as per schedule.

Talking about load-shedding, he said the problem would be surmounted as talks with Iran were going on for purchase of electricity.

Later, speaking at a public gathering at circuit house, he said that the government was determined to improve living standard of the people and invited all the political parties to shun differences and work on a single platform for the purpose.

He thanked the House of Charity doctors who operated upon the poor patients of the area free of cost and added that soon a World Health Organisation team would visit Jacobabad to enhance the health facilities here.

On the complaint of the people against the executive district officer, works, and the executive engineer, roads, Jacobabad, regarding use of substandard material in the construction of a road, Mr Soomro asked them to give complaints in writing so that an inquiry could be conducted.

He said that the sewerage system was given proper consideration and the same would be corrected and renovated.

Among others, Sardar Muqeem Khan Khoso, Sardar Zulfiqar Sarki and provincial minister Dr Sohrab Sarki also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Mr Soomro was accorded warm welcome on his arrival at the airport of his home town.
