ISLAMABAD, April 24: The Ministry of Interior has decided to hold weekly press briefing on law and order situation and internal security issues, National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) Director General and ministry’s spokesman Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema said here on Tuesday.

“Weekly briefing will be held on every Tuesday at 4 pm in his office,” he said.

The government, he said, wanted to keep people informed about the law and order situation in the country and the measures being taken to curb any sort of violence.

Referring to rallies held on Tuesday in connection with the Presidential reference against Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, the spokesman said that no untoward incident was reported from any part of the country.

Strict security measures were taken in the capital on the special directives of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, he said adding that even the PML rally was not allowed to march toward the parliament.

“This is reflective of the government’s policy that it believes in indiscriminate implementation of laws.”

Talking about missing people he said out of 175 missing people 33 had been traced and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, which had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the recovery of missing people, had been asked to provide complete details of the rest of missing persons so that their whereabouts could be known.

Responding to a question about border security, he said Pakistan had offered Afghanistan border security and biometric system which had been installed on Pakistan’s side.

He said the government had increased the number of posts at Pakistan-Afghanistan border to 1,000 against 100 made by Afghanistan on its side.
