LAHORE, April 23: Trade Development Authority of Pakistan chief executive Tariq Ikram said here on Monday that a cotton vision was being finalised to increase production and improve the quality of silver fiber in the country.

Speaking at a seminar on "importance and management of harmonised coding system in international trade" at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday, he said the textile vision was also being updated in line with the chaining needs.

He said the harmonised coding system is the backbone of trade in goods in the world as it links Pakistan with the global market. He stressed the need for spreading awareness about this method in the business community.

Mr Ikram said harmonised coding system was a multi-purpose tool and for universal language for goods being traded, it helps give required boost to exports.

He urged the exporters to mention correct HS code on goods declaration (GDs) forms for availing the facilities based on export performance.

The correct coding would help exporters establish their claims to avail facilities extended by the TDAP.

About the amendments made in the year 2007, he said the changes were made to ensure separate identity of Hi-tech products and the products of environmental concern.

He said that country's exports were under pressure as only four per cent increase was registered when compared with the corresponding period last year.

He said a careful study would reveal that the core products had failed to give matching performance in terms of exports.

He said measures had already been taken to disseminate all trade-related information to the business community within 48 hours for the guidance of exporters.

He said all commercial officers posted in the foreign countries would report to the Authority and the step was taken to get the desired results of high exports.

He said the TDAP had hired the services of consultants of international repute to re-strengthen the vision of the authority.
