SHEIKHUPURA, April 14: The six-year-old girl found dead on Friday was gang-raped and strangled, according to a medical report by the District Headquarters Hospital issued late on Saturday.

The body of Shahil, daughter of a labourer, Rashid, was found outside a teacher’s house in Gurdaspur on Hafizabad Road.

Sadar police took eight people, including schoolteacher Niaz and his four sons, into custody and started investigation.

Social and religious circles deplored the incident and demanded an early arrest of culprits.

TRAFFIC: Traffic between Manawala and Shahkot near Kotla Kohlun, some 60 km away from here, remained suspended after the death of a man and his son in an accident on Saturday evening.

The victims on board a donkey cart were on way to Kotla Kahlun village when a speeding truck hit them.

Scores of people gathered on the spot and blocked the dual carriageway for several hours.

The protesters chanted slogans against the NHA for not removing the U-turn on the busy highway causing frequent fatal accidents.

Nankana DPO Umer Farooq Bhatti reached the spot and got traffic restored.
