LAHORE, April 13: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has directed the food department to depute honest staff at wheat procurement centres to ensure transparency and enable farmers to get return for their produce.

“No person seeking bribe or having any involvement in any type of corruption in this regard will be tolerated,” he said while presiding over a meeting held here on Friday to review arrangements for wheat procurement.

He directed the department to provide all possible facilities to farmers during the wheat procurement campaign. He said timely provision of gunny bags to the farmers should be ensured.

He said additional wheat procurement centres would be set up if required. He warned the food staff of action for showing laxity during the campaign.

He said the farmers should lodge their complaints at toll-free number as the Chief Minister’s Secretariat would monitor wheat procurement.

Provincial Food Minister Hasnain Jehanian Gardezi said arrangements had been completed for the supply of gunny bags to cultivators at procurement centres.

He said 316 centres had been set up for wheat procurement and more would be established for the convenience of the farmers.—APP
