Wapda scoops four gold in karate

KARACHI, April 11: Wapda karatekas put up a brilliant show to grab triple gold in the National Games at Ameer Hussain Gymnasium, Kakri Ground on Wednesday. Besides winning the men team and individual kata gold, Agha Muhammad clinched the gold in super weight category also.

The trio of Khalid Noor, Noorullah and Israr-ul-Haq grabbed gold in team kata for Wapda while Balochistan's Muhammad Naeem, Ali Murtuza and Zubair-ul-Afzal got the silver and Muhammad Nadeem, M.Imtiaz and M.Ibrahim of Punjab captured the bronze.

Rahila Shaheen of Pakistan Army ended Wapda’s domination by taking women individual kata gold.

In 70kg karate contest, Sindh's Hamid grabbed the gold as he defeated Shaukat Ali of Wapda. In over 80kg category Shams-uz-Zaman of Wapda overpowered Army's Amir Waqar to seize the gold. Army's lone gold came in under 75kg category when Adil Jan got better of Ghazanfar Ali from Pakistan Police. — PPI
