KARACHI, April 11: Sindh Minister for Local Government and Katchi Abadis, Muhammad Hussain Khan, said Karachi would be turned into City of Parks. “The projects of big parks in Manghopir and Bin Qasim areas would also be launched shortly,” he said while inaugurating Taimuria Football Ground in Union Council-2, Shah Faisal Colony 5, according to a release issued on Wednesday.

The sports ground, spread over 108,000sq-ft, has been constructed at a cost of Rs4 million.

The minister said leasing process of about 100 Katchi Abadis in Karachi was underway while his department had also taken up the regularisation of katchi abadis on railway land with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. “The matter would hopefully be solved soon,” he added.

He said steps were being taken to vacate the parks and playgrounds currently under occupation of law enforcing agencies by offering them alternate lands.
