TOBA TEK SINGH, April 8: City police on Sunday arrested another blasphemy accused, Shehla Masih, during a raid at Christian Colony.

The police had registered a blasphemy case against five people on Eid-i-Milad and arrested one of them, Salamat Masih.

The accused had reportedly trampled a sticker underfoot on which the picture of `Naalain Mubarik’ of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had been published.

Catholic church priest Bonnie Mendes has condemned the arrest of Shehla Masih and termed it an action of police to create a law and order situation. He demanded immediate release of both the accused and quashment of the case. He claimed that the case was baseless and no incident had taken place at all.

On the other hand, a meeting of citizens and ulema was held on Sunday in Jamia Kareemia Rizvia with Tanzeem Ulema Ahle Sunnah chief Sahibzada Faiz Rasool in the chair.

The participants passed a resolution, demanding arrest of all the blasphemy accused.

The meeting was attended by Sunni Tehrik district convener Allama Hameeduddin Rizvi, Jamiat ulema Ahle Sunnah secretary-general Maulana Shamas Zaman Qadri and some local bodies representatives.

POLLS: The district council will meet here on Monday (today) at 10am for the election of naib nazim.

The slot had fallen vacant after the resignation of Chaudhry Sultan Ahmad.

ACCIDENT: An unidentified old man was run over and killed by a speeding bus (MNS-9650) on Sunday on Toba-Gojra Road near Jaiwala railway station. Saddar police have arrested the bus driver and impounded the vehicle.

A body was recovered from a watercourse at Chak 288 GB here on Sunday. Police are investigating.

RAPIST HELD: Chuttiana police on Sunday arrested an alleged rapist of a poor girl at Chak 307 GB.

Umer Hayat informed the police that his sister was alone at home when `I’ forced his entry into the house and raped his sister.
