Rehman spells doom for Punjab

Published April 6, 2007

KARACHI, April 5: Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman grabbed a five-wicket as Habib Bank crushed Punjab by an innings and 57 runs in the Pentangular Cup match with a day to spare at the National Stadium here on Thursday.

On another scorching day with mercury touching 40 degrees Celsius, Punjab batting fell apart with 14 wickets going down on the third day of the four-day fixture.

Resuming at 185 for six, Punjab added another 74 runs before being dismissed for 259 in reply to Habib Bank’s massive first-innings total of 531.

The regional side lasted only 62.5 overs after being asked to bat again by the bankers’ stand-in skipper Shahid Afridi. They were eventually all out for 215 in the second innings with Rehman, the slow left-armer, picking up five for 72. Afridi took two for 32 with his leg-spinners.
