LAHORE, April 5: President Pervez Musharraf has announced Rs50,000 and Umra ticket for Baba Mehardin in recogniation of his patriotism, says an ISPR press release. Holding the national flag and clad in green and white, the 80-year-old attends the flag lowering ceremony at Wagah everyday.

Keeping it up for the last four decades, Baba Mehardin travels daily from Bilal Gunj, Lahore, to Wagah.

Migrating from the far side of the dividing fence, Baba knows the price of freedom paid in 1947 as he lost his family members and left personal belongings for the `home land.’

During the 1965 and 1971 wars, he served food and water to troops in the BRB Canal area.
