KARACHI, April 5: Despite clear-cut directives of the Sindh governor and the city nazim, illegal constructions are under way in violation of the by-laws of the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) in various areas of Gulberg Town.

The recent case of illegal construction was reported at main Karimabad road, where the builder had started construction of shops on the area specified for the gate between two blocks of a residential project namely Karimabad colony apartments.

According to CDGK sources, the authorities concerned are taking bribes for allowing illegal constructions in different parts of the town. Residents of the apartment said they had lodged complaints with the authorities concerned as regards illegal constructions, however, they added, no action had been taken so far.

“The builder on being approached asked us not to approach the authorities as no action could be taken against him", a resident said.

Residents appealed to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and City Nazim Mustafa Kamal to take notice of the situation.

According to town sources, illegal constructions are underway in various areas of Gulberg Town, including Karimabad, Azizabad and Dastagir, where additional shops or apartments are being built on the areas specified for recreation or other purposes.—Online
