KARACHI, April 4: A 24-year-old woman was shot dead early on Wednesday morning by two muggers who wanted to rob her and her husband of their cellular phones in Nazimabad No1.

Rizvia police said Mohammed Rizwan and his wife Samreen were returning home after visiting the nearby house of the woman’s parents around 3am when two motorcyclists intercepted them near Hiba Public School. One of the bandits placed his pistol on the forehead of Samreen, who was carrying her 11-month-old baby in her arms, and demanded their cellphones.

Quoting the victim’s spouse, police said the bandits became jittery as Rizwan asked them to remove the pistol from the forehead of his wife. They said the armed man pulled the trigger during the argument and the woman received a bullet to her skull.

The police said Samreen died instantly as her husband helplessly watched the culprits speeding away on their bike.

Her body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where sources said the victim had received a bullet which pierced through her skull.

BEATEN TO DEATH: A 19-year-old Bengali-speaking man was beaten to death by four suspects in Ali Akbar Goth within the limits of Ibrahim Haideri police.

Police said they had arrested one of the suspects on the complaint of victim’s brother. They said Mohammed Tayyab, a fisherman, reached his house around 7:15am in a critical condition as his body bore marks of severe torture. The victim’s brother, Mohammed Ayub, reported to the police that his brother was beaten to death by four suspects residing in the same vicinity. They said a case was registered on his complaint against suspects Muneer, Noor Mohammed, Rehmatullah and Salamatullah.

Police said they had arrested Muneer, who claimed the victim had entered his house for committing theft and was thrashed by the people after being caught red-handed.
