DADU, April 3: Students staged a rally on Tuesday against Nawabshah police and the administration of Quaid-i-Awam Engineering University (Quest) for arresting 70 students after a clash between students and university employees.

The students of Quest, Degree College Dadu and activists of JSSF and SPSF took part in the rally which was led by a student Zain Leghari and district president SPSF, Qazak Hussain.

According to Zain Leghari there was a minor clash some few days ago but the police arrested around 70 students and registered cases against another 309.

He alleged that the police arrested many from the hostels and classrooms who were not even involved in the incident.

He demanded that the Sindh governor intervene in the matter and issue orders for the release of arrested students.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: Police released 43 students of Quest who were arrested after a clash with employees.

A meeting between students’ parents and members of Quest employees union was held at SP Investigation’s office in which parents apologised to the members of employees union on behalf of their children who had attacked the employees, injured some of them and also damaged the university property on Saturday.

Police had booked over 300 students on complaint of Mohammad Nawaz Ujjan, a university employee.

SP Investigation Syed Ghayasuddin Rashidi told Dawn that the complainant said that he was not fully conscious at the time of registration of FIR and about 43 students arrested were not involved in the attack after which they were released.

He said that three students were still in police custody and a number of others involved in the incident would be arrested.
