LAHORE, April 3: The Labour Party of Pakistan (LPP) on Tuesday wound up its camp set up in front of the Shimla Pahari on Monday.
The camp was established by the party to express its solidarity with the lawyers’ struggle where trade union leaders and political activists remained present for most of the time.
Party secretary-general Farooq Tariq and Azra Shad told the concluding ceremony that the party would organise rallies in 20 cities of the country, including Lahore, to mobilise the people in favour of lawyers’ democratic movement which, they said, was bound to achieve the goal of getting rid of military rule and establishing democracy.
JAMAAT: The Jamaat-i-Islami women held a rally outside Mansoora on Multan Road in support of lawyers’ agitation where their leaders condemned the detention of Qazi Husain Ahmad and demanded his release, a press release said.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat deputy secretary-general Malik Mohammad Ashraf and MPA Azra Qamar said the movement would continue till the 1973 Constitution was restored as it stood on Oct 9, 1999, independence of the judiciary and establishment of a genuine democracy in the country.
